Gar­den­ers flock to pop­u­lar plant sale

MORE than 500 gar­den­ers en­joyed the Mac­cles­field Potato Day sale of seeds and plants in the Town Hall.

The event was or­gan­ised by Food4Macc, a vol­un­tary or­gan­i­sa­tion set up to pro­mote res­i­dents grow­ing their own food.

Colin Tow­nend, chair­man, said: “This is our third year of run­ning this sale and we were re­ally pleased to see so many lo­cal gar­den­ers turn out to buy the seeds, bulbs, plants, fruit trees and bushes they need for the com­ing sea­son.”

He added: “We have a good team of vol­un­teers, and to­gether with the staff of the town hall they make it an en­joy­able event to host.

“We met quite a few mem­bers of lo­cal al­lot­ment so­ci­eties at the sale, and were pleased to hear that there are some al­lot­ments avail­able at Dean Row fol­low­ing de­vo­lu­tion from Cheshire East.”

Food4Macc also hosts com­mu­nity gar­den ses­sions. The next work­ing party event will tackle at Her­itage Walk on Tues- day, Fe­bru­ary 16, at 2pm.

Meet at the cor­ner of Churchill Way and Ex­change street, Mac­cles­field. Ev­ery­one is wel­come to turn up and join in. Please wear suit­able cloth­ing. For more in­for­ma­tion go to food4macc. org.
