Youngsters lead the service as church elders take a pew
CHURCH elders took their seats as youngsters took over the service at Tytherington Family Worship Church.
Preachers, leaders and readers between the ages of 12 and 15 planned and led the special service with the theme ‘counting your blessings’.
The aim was to do something uplifting and different to show how blessings can be shared.
As members of the church’s Fusion Youth Group, the youngsters welcomed everyone ‘air hostess’ style, pointing out the exits to the congregation and advising that their ‘life preservers’, their bibles, were under their seats.
Flo Cooper and Sophie Cartwright led the service, with Alexander Bowmaker and Lee Hodkinson taking charge of the prayers and readings.
There was also a presentation by Elise Bowmaker and Chloe Barber, followed by a lively sermon presented by all four girls.
Applause resounded throughout the church as the youngsters read out the carefully prepared scripts and sermons they had all worked on together.
Bob Bowland, church elder, said: “It was absolutely amazing and so inspiring. The whole service was planned and led by our young people.
“It was different, funny and at the same time amazingly spiritual and sensitive, leaving the whole congregation deeply moved.
“The youngsters also chose all the music, which was really lively and uplifting.
“Their theme was ‘counting your blessings’ and we are certainly counting ours, they were great.”
The young service leaders enjoyed the role reversal too.
Bob said: “They were a bit nervous but felt fine once they started and had lots of praise and encouragement from the whole congregation.
“They said they’d definitely do it again.”
