Raf­fle win for vil­lage vicar

A VICAR won a raf­fle or­gan­ised by a moun­tain res­cue team which helped him af­ter an ac­ci­dent years ago.

Steve Rath­bone, of Holy Trin­ity Church in Rainow, en­tered the raf­fle by Bux­ton Moun­tain Res­cue be­cause he wanted to sup­port the team.

Steve was res­cued by the moun­tain res­cue in 2012 when he crashed while moun­tain bik­ing.

The moun­tain res­cue team was pleased to an­nounce him as the win­ner of its 2015 Christ­mas Raf­fle and pre­sented Steve with the first prize – a £200 voucher do­nated by The Bike Fac­tory of Wha­ley Bridge.

Steve said: “Buy­ing the raf­fle ticket was a great op­por­tu­nity to sup­port moun­tain res­cue af­ter it res­cued me.”

The pre­sen­ta­tion was made at the premises of The Bike Fac­tory where the voucher was for­mally handed over.

Fred Salmon, of The Bike Fac­tory, said: “Moun­tain Res­cue do a lot to help moun­tain bik­ers and it was a plea­sure to be able to help them con­tinue their ded­i­ca­tion.”

The gen­eros­ity of The Bike Fac­tory and other prize donors helped the res­cue team raise £720 to­wards main­tain­ing its ve­hi­cles and equip­ment.

Bux­ton Moun­tain Res­cue Team thank all those who bought tick­ets to help it con­tinue its work help­ing walk­ers and bik­ers on the Peak District’s moor­lands and trails.
