Couple win £8,000 on TV show
A FIREFIGHTER and his wife have appeared on a new TV show and won £8,000.
Matt Lloyd, who is based at Macclesfield fire station on Chester Road, and his wife Nicola were winners in the BBC1 show The Getaway Car.
The show involves five couples tackling four rounds of driving challenges. The last team standing then race The Stig from Top Gear for the chance to win £10,000.
Matt and Nicola, who travelled to South Africa for the challenge, scooped £8,000 in the final.
Matt said the money would be used to ‘create some special memories’ for their two children, Jacob and Poppy.
The show, which is billed as Gogglebox meets Total Wipeout, is hosted by Dermot O’Leary.
Matt and Nicola, who have been married for 21 years, had to wear blue jump suits to take on the challenges.
During the show Matt said: “The children are super-excited, we are normally running them around in the car.
“I have the weight of the fire service on my shoulders. I can’t let them down.
“This isn’t driving around the streets of Macclesfield under blue lights, this is completely crazy.”
After reaching the final Nicola told host Dermot: “We’ve been together 24 years and this experience has taught us more things about each other. It has been really stressful but brilliant at the same time.”
In the final challenge Matt had to try and beat The Stig in a race but was caught on the final lap.
Matt said: “It was hairy scary but I loved every minute of it.”
It is not Matt’s first appearance on TV. He was part of the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service choir chosen to take part in the second series of the hit BBC Two show The Choir – Sing While You Work.
