Triton tamed as Macc hold on
MACCLESFIELD Ladies emerged 3-2 winners when they faced a tough Triton side in fierce conditions at the weekend.
Triton put the pressure on early and kept a couple of players really high all match, forcing the defence to keep an eye on them.
The first goal came from a great strike from Emma Houghton at the top of the D which Claire Barlow deflected sweetly past the Triton defence.
Triton equalised quite quickly from a quick break which split the defence.
There were some good runs from Sarah Duffy, getting behind the defenders but their goalkeeper had a good game and a defender cleared off the line mid first half.
Macc had plenty of possession but tended to lose the ball with some poor passes.
A second goal was scored by Claire Barlow converting from a short corner.
Triton were then relentless in their efforts to get a second goal themselves, which they did following a series of failed short corners.
Angela Duffy was accused by the umpire of sticking her leg in the way, a fact she disputed as it was lifted into her thigh. The umpired signalled for a short corner where Triton scored with a strong strike from just inside the D.
Macc continued to battle as Triton were awarded a couple of dubious short corner decisions from the umpire.
A quick breakaway from Sarah Duffy and a great pass across the goal resulted in Sarah Wheeler sneaking a great goal at the back post to make it 3-2.
More short corners from Triton saw a desperate close to the game as the opposition searched for an equaliser, Sue Pett deflecting what looked a certain goal around the post with five mins to go, ensuring Macclesfield picked up the three points.
