If you have problems with your home’s drains, get a professional to jet-wash them so they flow freely.

Finally, sand and clean off the repair, and apply exterior wood paint. DOING some decorating? Read on.

The Harris 9-in and 4-in Tray Inserts 20 Piece Set (reduced to £8.79, Screwfix) is a must-have, and great value.

Before starting to paint, pop one of these transparent plastic inserts in your roller tray (there are 10 for mini-roller trays and 10 for 9-in roller trays in the set) and then pour in the paint.

When you’ve finished, there’s no need to waste time and effort cleaning out the roller tray – simply throw the insert away.

This solves the problem of paint drying in the tray and cracking in future, which can ruin any paint in it. If you’ve got a number of different paint colours on the go, these tray inserts are really useful because you need only use one tray.
