AMAN has gone on trial over allegations of historic sex offences against two children.

Andrew McClean, 45, is accused of indecently assaulting a girl in Macclesfield and in his work’s van.

He is also accused of gross indecency with a boy at around the same period in the 1990s.

Mr McClean, of Dawson Close, Macclesfield, denies gross indecency with a child and indecent assault.

He is standing trial at Chester Crown Court.

The jury heard claims that when the alleged offences started Mr McClean was in his 20s working as a bouncer at nightclubs across the North West and playing for Macclesfield Rugby Club.

Prosecutor Sarah Badrawy said he encouraged the boy to perform a sex act in front of him and to look at pornographic magazines.

The court also heard claims that Mr McClean kissed the girl and touched her in a sexual way.

One witness told the court that Mr McClean shouted and swore at her when she walked in on him and one of the alleged victims lying on a bed.

The court heard the sexual abuse took place at a house in Macclesfield and in the defendant’s work van.

Ms Badrawy claimed that years later Mr McClean made a drunken apology to the female victim telling her ‘he loved her too much’, a claim he denies.

Katherine Pierpoint, defending Mr McClean, said both victims had made their own complaints to police in reaction to Mr McClean’s allegations that he himself had suffered abuse.

However Ms Badrawy, prosecuting, described Mr McClean’s abuse claims as ‘smoke and mirrors’.
