Man dies after being hit by train
A MAN has died after being hit by a train near Macclesfield.
Emergency services were called to the track at Prestbury at around 8.45am yesterday (Tuesday, February 16).
British Transport Police said a man’s body was recovered about a mile from the station and they are now working to identify him and inform his next of kin.
A BTP spokesman said: “We were called to the line about a quarter of a mile from Prestbury station, towards Manchester, at around 8.45am following reports of a person being hit by a train.
“Officers from BTP are currently at the scene and have located the body of a man. The line is closed and work is ongoing to establish his identity and inform his family.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
Trains between Manchester and London and other local services were disrupted following the tragic incident on the West Coast main line.
