Man dies af­ter be­ing hit by train

A MAN has died af­ter be­ing hit by a train near Mac­cles­field.

Emer­gency ser­vices were called to the track at Prest­bury at around 8.45am yes­ter­day (Tues­day, Fe­bru­ary 16).

Bri­tish Trans­port Po­lice said a man’s body was re­cov­ered about a mile from the sta­tion and they are now work­ing to iden­tify him and in­form his next of kin.

A BTP spokesman said: “We were called to the line about a quar­ter of a mile from Prest­bury sta­tion, to­wards Manch­ester, at around 8.45am fol­low­ing re­ports of a per­son be­ing hit by a train.

“Of­fi­cers from BTP are cur­rently at the scene and have lo­cated the body of a man. The line is closed and work is on­go­ing to es­tab­lish his iden­tity and in­form his fam­ily.

“The death is not be­ing treated as sus­pi­cious and a file is be­ing pre­pared for the coro­ner.”

Trains be­tween Manch­ester and Lon­don and other lo­cal ser­vices were dis­rupted fol­low­ing the tragic in­ci­dent on the West Coast main line.
