Drink driver more than 3 times limit at wheel
A DRINK driver has avoided prison after he was caught while almost three-and-a-half times the legal limit.
Stephen Derek Wild, 57, was caught behind the wheel of a Toyota by police on Barnaby Road, Poynton, on August 8, last year.
He was breathalysed by officers and recorded 119mg of alcohol in breath. The legal limit is 35mg. Wild, of Barnaby Road, Poynton, was found guilty of drink driving and a charge of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour after a trial at Macclesfield magistrates’ court on January 7.
Magistrates on January 14 sentenced Wild to six weeks in prison suspended for 12 months.
He was also given a six-month curfew with electronic tag banning him from leaving his home from 8pm to 8am.
Court records explained the magistrates’ level of punishment was because the breathalyser reading was high, ‘the danger he posed to members of the public’ and his ‘lack of remorse’.
Wild was banned from driving for 28 months. He was also ordered to pay £620 in court costs.
Wild was also given a restraining order banning him from contacting his victim or entering Distaff Road for a year.
