Drink driver more than 3 times limit at wheel

A DRINK driver has avoided prison af­ter he was caught while al­most three-and-a-half times the le­gal limit.

Stephen Derek Wild, 57, was caught be­hind the wheel of a Toy­ota by po­lice on Barn­aby Road, Poyn­ton, on Au­gust 8, last year.

He was breathal­ysed by of­fi­cers and recorded 119mg of al­co­hol in breath. The le­gal limit is 35mg. Wild, of Barn­aby Road, Poyn­ton, was found guilty of drink driv­ing and a charge of us­ing threat­en­ing, abu­sive or in­sult­ing words or be­hav­iour af­ter a trial at Mac­cles­field mag­is­trates’ court on Jan­uary 7.

Mag­is­trates on Jan­uary 14 sen­tenced Wild to six weeks in prison sus­pended for 12 months.

He was also given a six-month cur­few with elec­tronic tag ban­ning him from leav­ing his home from 8pm to 8am.

Court records ex­plained the mag­is­trates’ level of pun­ish­ment was be­cause the breathal­yser read­ing was high, ‘the dan­ger he posed to mem­bers of the pub­lic’ and his ‘lack of re­morse’.

Wild was banned from driv­ing for 28 months. He was also or­dered to pay £620 in court costs.

Wild was also given a re­strain­ing or­der ban­ning him from con­tact­ing his vic­tim or en­ter­ing Distaff Road for a year.
