Girls’ footie team Cheshire’s best

THE girls’ foot­ball team from Marl­bor­ough Pri­mary School have been an­nounced the un­der-11 Cheshire cham­pi­ons, af­ter a ‘thrilling’ tour­na­ment win.

Af­ter beat­ing off stiff com­pe­ti­tion from 16 district cham­pion teams from other schools, the Marl­bor­ough Girls seized vic­tory in the al­limpor­tant tour­na­ment fi­nal.

They won on penal­ties, af­ter a nail-bit­ing re­sult of 1-1 af­ter ex­tra time saw them fight to the end to snatch vic­tory.

The tal­ented girls will now play in the North of Eng­land Fi­nals next month.

PE teacher David Hope, praised the girls for their un­wa­ver­ing de­ter­mi­na­tion to suc­ceed.

He said: “The girls re­sponded to ad­ver­sity time and time again, ac­tu­ally play­ing their best foot­ball when fac­ing elim­i­na­tion.

“Su­san­nah scored a fan­tas­tic goal to help the team qual­ify for the quar­ter fi­nals.

“Caitlin saved three penal­ties in the fi­nal too which res­cued the team, who were 3-1 down in the shootout, and al­lowed them to win 4-3 on penalty kicks.

“Their de­sire to fight for each other and their vow to never give up al­lowed them to achieve an in­cred­i­ble vic­tory.”

Head­teacher at the school, Su­san Pol­lard, said: “The whole of the school com­mu­nity is in­cred­i­bly proud of the girls’ achieve­ments and wishes them the very best of luck in the next round.”
