Girls’ footie team Cheshire’s best
THE girls’ football team from Marlborough Primary School have been announced the under-11 Cheshire champions, after a ‘thrilling’ tournament win.
After beating off stiff competition from 16 district champion teams from other schools, the Marlborough Girls seized victory in the allimportant tournament final.
They won on penalties, after a nail-biting result of 1-1 after extra time saw them fight to the end to snatch victory.
The talented girls will now play in the North of England Finals next month.
PE teacher David Hope, praised the girls for their unwavering determination to succeed.
He said: “The girls responded to adversity time and time again, actually playing their best football when facing elimination.
“Susannah scored a fantastic goal to help the team qualify for the quarter finals.
“Caitlin saved three penalties in the final too which rescued the team, who were 3-1 down in the shootout, and allowed them to win 4-3 on penalty kicks.
“Their desire to fight for each other and their vow to never give up allowed them to achieve an incredible victory.”
Headteacher at the school, Susan Pollard, said: “The whole of the school community is incredibly proud of the girls’ achievements and wishes them the very best of luck in the next round.”
