New town council website goes live
MACCLESFIELD Town Council has launched a new website to help communicate with residents.
The website – www. macclesfield-tc.gov.uk – also signposts people to the services the town council can provide.
It has been the result of hard work from the council’s communications strategy group, led by West and Ivy ward councillor Adam Schofield.
Coun Schofield: “We have been working on the site for several months now, making sure that we included community groups, council assets, allotments, details on future council meetings, applying for a community grant and information on booking the Mayor to visit your organisation or event.
“We really wanted a site where all residents felt that they could air their concerns and suggestions on what the town council should be focusing on.
Coun Neil Puttick, who helped create the website, said it is designed integrate with all the things going on in Macclesfield, as well as Cheshire East Council.
He said: “Firstly, we’re asking people who run community groups, events and key parts of the town to contact us, as we are building a listings and map of community services in the town.
“We want the site to build with the council as we get more powers and more people get involved and we can add more subdomains as new town council projects and initiatives go live.
“For the moment, we need to get this ball rolling, but in the future we can use it to showcase more of Macclesfield.”
As part of the process, the town council is asking for feedback from users, particularly regarding usability, functionality and how people get to the information they need.
Coun Puttick added: “Please contact us if you would like to test and give feedback on the site, your comments will help shape it for the better.
“We will be regularly updating our website blog and residents can get instant social media updates from meetings and events by following the town council on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.”
Coun Schofield said that the communications strategy group’s next job is to begin developing new ways of communicating with residents who don’t have internet access.
He said: “Their need for information is just as vital as everybody else. We will be addressing this with our next project.”
