Na­tional award for farm­ing cham­pion

AFARMING cham­pion who rep­re­sents the ru­ral com­mu­nity around Mac­cles­field won a na­tional award for his work.

Keith Bright­more rep­re­sents farm­ers in the Mac­cles­field branch of the Na­tional Farm­ers Union (NFU) which cham­pi­ons Bri­tish farm­ing and grow­ing.

The or­gan­i­sa­tion in Mac­cles­field and around the coun­try aims to give farm­ers a voice on is­sues which af­fect them and their busi­nesses.

Keith won the award for be­ing the top per­former for re­cruit­ment and re­ten­tion of mem­bers to the NFU in the North West re­gion cov­er­ing Cheshire, Lan­cashire and Cum­bria.

Keith, group sec­re­tary for the branch, was pre- sented with his award at the NFU’s an­nual Na­tional Achieve­ment Awards Din­ner black tie event at The Bel­fry Ho­tel and Re­sort in Lon­don, with 170 group sec­re­taries from across the coun­try.

The awards were pre­sented by NFU pres­i­dent Meurig Ray­mond.

He­len Wain­wright, who is the new Cheshire County Ad­viser for the NFU North West Re­gion, said: “This was one of only 10 awards for the whole of the NFU Eng­land and Wales.

“It’s a fan­tas­tic achieve­ment by Keith.”
