Cricketers in sponsor bid

Macclesfield Express - - WILDLIFE -

A CRICKET club is appealing for sponsors to step forward and help buy kit for a new generation of players in its junior section.

Langley Cricket Club started a junior section two years ago and has been running under 9s and under 11s teams.

Matt Stevens, who runs the section, and his colleagues started by recruiting young players from Hollinhey Primary School and have been running taster sessions at other schools in the area to take on more children.

Now the club has started an under 13s team and is looking for sponsorship to buy kit and equipment.

They also hope to expand further in the future to include older teams up to under 17s and renovate the clubhouse.

Matt said: “We started the junior section after the Sutton Parish Plan steering group identified a lack of provision for children from 12 to 18 so we jumped on that.

“Part of our development plan is to add more junior teams and as we do we need more specialist equipment and to expand the clubhouse. We would love for local businesses and organisations to come forward with sponsorship.

“The club benefits lots of young people from around the area and we would eventually like to be a multi-sports club.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring the club should contact Matt on 07886 296305 or email langleycricketclub@ hot
