Moss Rose switch perfect for Jimmy
NEW Macclesfield Town signing Jimmy Phillips believes he is joining the perfect club for him after he arrived on loan from Gateshead.
The 26-year-old will stay at the Moss Rose for the next month and adds depth to a midfield that has been plagued with injuries over the past few weeks.
He was set to be in the squad that took on Dover on Saturday before that game was called off, but he’s excited to be part of the Silkmen for the near future.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better move really, as soon as I got the call I knew it was the right place to come and I’m delighted to have signed up,” he said.
“I’m chomping at the bit really. I can’t wait to get out there and hopefully we can push up the table because we are in a great position in the league.
“When we played against Macclesfield earlier in the season I was impressed with the football they played and also it means I’m moving back home, so it really is the perfect move for me.”
Phillips began his career with Premier League side Stoke City, before going on to spend six years with Burton Albion.
He made over 120 appearances for the Brewers during his time at the Pirelli Stadium, scoring three goals.
Phillips joined National League rivals Gateshead last year, but has found chances limited in recent weeks since the arrival of new boss Neil Aspin.
He is looking forward to showing just what he can do at Macclesfield though, and insists he will offer a lot to the team.
“I like to think I’m a creative player, I can play on the wing, centre midfield or even behind the striker,” he said.
“I’m someone who can get hold of the ball and keep the ball for the team and hopefully create chances. I just want to play as much football as possible personally, so we will have to see how it goes.”
Phillips could make his first appearance for Macclesfield on Saturday when they host Wrexham at the Moss Rose.
