School nets gold in tournament
BEECH Hall School pupils are celebrating after seizing victory at the Macclesfield Primary Schools’ mixed netball league.
The under-11s mixed netball league final against St Gregory’s Catholic School saw Beech Hall pupils take home gold after a nail-biting match.
Six games were played in the league in total against Nether Alderley School, Gawsworth Primary School and St Gregory’s.
The Beech Hall team, made up of three girls and three boys, managed to beat them all until the final, where they drew.
The final result was five-apiece which meant Beech Hall won the overall league because of their wins in every other match.
The team consisted of a combination of year five and six pupils from the school. In addition, two year four students, Ariarna Gordon and Elise Clegg, were on hand as substitutes if necessary.
Year six captain Poppy Jones led the team – comprising year six pupils Daisy Hopkinson, Frankie Lowe and Euan Causer, and year five pupils Jesse Elston, Theo Johnson and Emilia Gaddum – to victory.
Anne Farmer, PE teacher, said she was very pleased with the result.
She added: “Throughout the netball season the players have been developing their knowledge and understanding of the rules and techniques involved in the game.
“Their tactical and positional awareness has improved with match experience throughout the season.
“I have been really pleased with the enthusiasm, commitment and sportsmanship shown by the players”.
