Tails up as chihuahuas win
A FAMILY of Chihuahuas came home from a world-famous dog show with their tails wagging after winning a clutch of rosettes.
Lara, Blossom, Daniel and Edward, who live with their owner Mairi Austin in Macclesfield, won accolades at Crufts for their look, the quality of their coats and the way they moved, with Blossom coming top in the Chihuahua Veteran Bitch class.
Mairi said: “I was absolutely ecstatic with Blossom coming top of her Veteran Bitch class as the 20 dogs entered included foreign and British champions.”
Edward, the youngest of the bunch at just eight months, came second in his class, qualifying him for next year’s event, where he will join great-grandmother Lara and grandmother Blossom, who have a lifetime qualification for the contest.
Other Macclesfield pooches who competed with 22,000 dogs for prizes at the event at Birmingham’s NEC included Simon Clark and Nicki Eagles’ otterhound, one of only 900 in the world, and Valerie Nolan’s miniature dachshund Patrick, six, neither of which came home with a trophy.
