Trapped heron rescued by specialist firefighters
A HERON which became trapped in branches at a lake was brought to safety by an expert animal rescue team.
Firefighters in Macclesfield got the call about the trapped bird on Thursday, March 10.
They were called to Knight’s Pool, off Bank Street in Macclesfield to reports that the heron’s leg had become stuck in branches overhanging the water in the fishing lake.
The crew was joined by Brave Watch from Knutsford which has expertise in animal rescue.
The bird was brought to safety by two officers before being handed to the care of the RSPCA.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Firefighters were called out to rescue a heron that had its leg stuck.
“The bird was safely rescued, brought in to shore and handed into the care of an RSPCA officer who took it to their sanctuary as it had suffered some damage to one of its wings.”
The crew was called at 3.36pm. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has animal rescue units with specialist clothing and equipment based at Knutsford and Bollington fire stations.
