Furniture recycling project will help needy
APROJECT to pass unwanted furniture to the town’s most needy has been launched.
Cheshire Streetwise, a community interest company which supports homeless people in Macclesfield, has launched a furniture reuse project.
They are asking residents to donate unwanted tables, chairs, beds and other furniture items to the project, which means the Macclesfield families in financial hardship can access much needed furniture at either a low or no cost.
Maggie Falconer-Drew, from Cheshire Streetwise and who runs the project, said:“It’s great to be able to offer a new furniture reuse service to Macclesfield residents.
“I would like to thank the volunteers, Cheshire Peaks and Plains, Cheshire East Council, Ansa and members of the Cheshire Furniture Reuse Forum for their support in making this happen.”
Cheshire Streetwise currently runs drop in sessions for socially isolated and excluded residents. It provides basic practical needs of food and drink as well as offering support and counselling.
It is hoped the furniture reuse project will also provide volunteer and training opportunities for residents who are having difficulties finding employment.
The project, which is supported by the Cheshire Furniture Reuse Forum, secured a tender with the East Cheshire Council as part of the Emergency Furniture Project, which aims to supply people in need with furniture for their homes based on donations fom their own community.
Macclesfield MP David Rutley, who is supporting the charity, said: “I am very pleased to have been able to open this new shop, which will be of great benefit to those who need to furnish their house, but are experiencing financial difficulties.
“Cheshire Streetwise do a lot of work already to support the most vulnerable in our community, and I am sure that this project will be warmly appreciated by local residents.
“I would like to thank Maggie and her team for all their hard work.”
If anyone has any good quality furniture or household items to donate contact Maggie on 07469 176811.
