Students make a splash at contest
A TEAM of young swimmers showed off their winning strokes to come back victorious from an inter-schools competition.
Eight swimmers from Bollington Cross CE Primary School won first prize in this year’s Macclesfield Schools Swimming Gala.
They entered individual events and took part in relay races to collect points to go towards the team’s total.
And the youngsters are celebrating winning the most points of all the 14 schools in the competition at Macclesfield Leisure Centre to proudly take back the first prize to pupils and staff in Bollington.
Julie Bennett, deputy headteacher, said how proud the school is of the team.
She said: “We were the proud winners of the Macclesfield Schools Swimming Gala.
“Congratulations to Grace, Alicia, Mary, Theo, Joseph, Mia, Thomas and Eddie on winning the trophy.
“We are very proud of all our swimmers and their marvellous team effort.”
The team was made up of seven year six pupils and one from year five.
It’s perhaps little surprise the school turns out such good swimmers, with every pupil having the chance to hone their skills with regular lessons at Bollington Leisure Centre.
Mrs Bennett said: “The children of Bollington are very fortunate to experience such excellent teaching at Bollington Leisure Centre.
“It’s a great community facility and the children can walk there.
“Every pupil has regular lessons from reception right through to year six.
“Thank you to the swimming teachers and parents for their wonderful support.”
