Stu­dents make a splash at con­test

A TEAM of young swim­mers showed off their win­ning strokes to come back vic­to­ri­ous from an in­ter-schools com­pe­ti­tion.

Eight swim­mers from Bolling­ton Cross CE Pri­mary School won first prize in this year’s Mac­cles­field Schools Swim­ming Gala.

They en­tered in­di­vid­ual events and took part in re­lay races to col­lect points to go to­wards the team’s to­tal.

And the young­sters are cel­e­brat­ing win­ning the most points of all the 14 schools in the com­pe­ti­tion at Mac­cles­field Leisure Cen­tre to proudly take back the first prize to pupils and staff in Bolling­ton.

Julie Ben­nett, deputy head­teacher, said how proud the school is of the team.

She said: “We were the proud win­ners of the Mac­cles­field Schools Swim­ming Gala.

“Con­grat­u­la­tions to Grace, Ali­cia, Mary, Theo, Joseph, Mia, Thomas and Ed­die on win­ning the tro­phy.

“We are very proud of all our swim­mers and their mar­vel­lous team ef­fort.”

The team was made up of seven year six pupils and one from year five.

It’s per­haps lit­tle sur­prise the school turns out such good swim­mers, with ev­ery pupil hav­ing the chance to hone their skills with reg­u­lar lessons at Bolling­ton Leisure Cen­tre.

Mrs Ben­nett said: “The chil­dren of Bolling­ton are very for­tu­nate to ex­pe­ri­ence such ex­cel­lent teach­ing at Bolling­ton Leisure Cen­tre.

“It’s a great com­mu­nity fa­cil­ity and the chil­dren can walk there.

“Ev­ery pupil has reg­u­lar lessons from re­cep­tion right through to year six.

“Thank you to the swim­ming teach­ers and par­ents for their won­der­ful sup­port.”
