Name: Sue Ben­nett. Which or­gan­i­sa­tion are you in­volved with?: Speak­ing Up Speak­ing Out. What does the or­gan­i­sa­tion do?: Speak­ing Up Speak­ing Out is run with and for adults with learn­ing dis­abil­i­ties. Para­chute is our drop-in, open Mon­day to Thurs­day 10.30am–3.45pm. Any­body can come and we do lots of ac­tiv­i­ties and work­shops around con­fi­dence, skills-build­ing and well­be­ing. Most im­por­tantly, we are a place to come to meet friends and have fun! How did you be­come a vol­un­teer?: As a par­ent, I have been in­volved with var­i­ous fundrais­ing ac­tiv­i­ties. I have now been in­vited to be­come a trustee of the char­ity. Which projects have you been in­volved with re­cently?: We re­cently had a very suc­cess­ful Valen­tine’s Karaoke evening at the drop-in which ev­ery­one thor­oughly en­joyed. I was also in­volved in a fundrais­ing din­ner dance which was great fun and a chance to see ev­ery­one look­ing very glam­orous. Last June we took part in the Barn­aby Pop Up Pa­rade in Mac­cles­field and danced with the Samba band. This cheered up the Satur­day shop­pers! We can’t wait to take part in Barn­aby again this year. What do you en­joy most about do­ing this?: See­ing ev­ery­one en­joy­ing be­ing with their friends and hav­ing a pur­pose to the day that we can all share in. What is your favourite place in Mac­cles­field?: I en­joy tak­ing my grand­chil­dren to en­joy the lovely parks we have in Mac­cles­field. Ideally how would you spend ev­ery day?: With my friends and fam­ily hav­ing happy times. What was the best hol­i­day you have been on?: To Africa on sa­fari! If money were no ob­ject what would you do?: Give some to de­serv­ing char­i­ties like Speak­ing Up Speak­ing Out and Seals Swim­ming Club. What one piece of ad­vice would you give?: Al­ways try to see the best in peo­ple. What was your first job?: I worked for my fam­ily who had a mo­bile shop. When I was learn­ing to drive, I would do emer­gency stops and break some of the bis­cuits. What is on your CD / MP3 player?: Adele – Hello. What is your favourite TV show?: Happy Val­ley with Sarah Lan­caster. What are you read­ing at the mo­ment?: Sadly no time to read. What is your big­gest in­spi­ra­tion?: Peo­ple who I know who ded­i­cate their lives to car­ing for oth­ers un­der dif­fi­cult cir­cum­stances.
