MACCLESFIELD made it six wins from six on Saturday when they travelled to Preston Grasshoppers and ran in six tries in a 16-38 win.

The Blues went behind early on, with the hosts’ kicker Lewis Allen getting them off the mark with three points from the kicking tee.

It didn’t take long for Macc to get going though, they piled the pressure on and the Hoppers defence soon gave way and Harrison Lewis powered over.

Ten minutes later, Macclesfield extended their lead. They won a free kick at the lineout, and Jordan Brookes showed quick thinking to take it on his own and stride in under the posts, Lewis Barker added the conversion to make it 3-12.

The Blues made it two tries in as many minutes when outside centre Elliot Brierley pounced on a loose ball in midfield and dived over the whitewash, 3-19.

On 27 minutes, Allen again added three points from the boot, to keep the Hoppers scoreboard ticking

On the stroke of half time, The Blues’ leading scorer Ryan Parkinson got his customary try, and secured Macclesfield’s bonus point.

Good set piece play from Macc resulted in Parkinson smashing his way over from close range, 6-24 half time.

Both sides were slow out of the blocks in the second period, and it took 20 minutes for the first score.

It went to the home side as strong set piece led to them bundling over The Blues’ line.

Preston made it two in two minutes and had their tails up as they searched for at least a losing bonus points with Macclesfield against the ropes. Preston worked it wide and tighthead prop Pete Altham dived over, 16-24.

The Blues weathered the Preston storm and put the game to bed with two tries in the final ten minutes.

The first came from substitute Greg Newton who somehow found a gap out wide to dive and finish in the corner, Lewis Barker added the tough conversion.

The best try of the afternoon was saved for last, Macclesfield running the ball from deep and moving it wide to winger Matt King who chipped in behind the defence, collected, and finished, Barker again with the extra two to make the final score 16-38.
