Askey’s plea for positive return

Macclesfield Express - - SPORT - WILL ATKINSON

JOHN Askey is urging his Macclesfield Town players to get back to playing positive football ahead of the trip to Boreham Wood this weekend.

Boreham Wood are just one point above the relegation zone, but Macc haven’t won in the National League since the 1-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers on January 2.

The poor run of form has seen them drop down the table, although the Silkmen did put in a bright performance during the 1-1 draw with in-form Lincoln City last Saturday.

With that in mind, Askey wants them to continue their progress and pick up the three points at Meadow Park.

“There were a lot of good performances against Lincoln and the amount of chances we created was good so we can all feel a little bit better about ourselves,” he said.

“We need to be more positive with our play though as we’ve not been positive enough at times over the last few weeks.

“We need to try and enjoy the rest of the season and try to win every game, that’s what it’s all about.

“The draw against Lincoln was a move in the right direction and hopefully that will spur us on. I have never doubted the commitment of the players as they have always given 100 per cent.”
