Macclesfield Express - - SCHOOLS NEWS -

A SCHOOL choir has been named the best in the region.

Rainow primary school was crowned best ‘Primary Vocal Ensemble’ in the Cheshire East Schools’ Music Competition 2016.

The singing team beat scholars at Upton Priory School and schools from Sandbach, Crewe, Nantwich and Congleton to steal the title.

The school had to get through heats to reach the final at Sandbach School, where they impressed judges Iain McKnight and Peter Hawksworth.

John Barber, director of Love Music Trust, which organised the competition, said: “Once again schools and staff across Cheshire East have demonstrated what can be achieved musically through hours of dedication and inspiration.

“All of us present felt we had been fortunate to witness something very special.”

It was the seventh time the Cheshire East Schools’ Music Competition had been held.

Rainow and other winning ensembles and choirs from the competition later performed at the Victoria Hall, Hanley, in a joint concert with the Love Music Trust Big Band and special guest vocalist Matthew Ford in a tribute to Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble.
