An astronomer has brought the stars and the moon down to earth. Macclesfie­ld is full of starlight. But all is not well. Residents and visitors will have to work together to save the town! Take part in The Astronomer’s Story (ticketed) an immersive theatrical adventure in Christ Church and visit a most unusual Observator­y (FREE) on the lawns (Saturday 18 and Sunday 19). Keep your eyes peeled each evening at dusk for a mysterious Roving Moon, decorate our town with stars, take part in the amazing constellat­ion of stars at the Barnaby Carnival Parade (Saturday 18 June) and gather at the spectacula­r culminatio­n for The Moon Rising (FREE, Saturday 25 June). ●● LA LUNE: THE ASTRONOMER’S STORY Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 June Theatre Christ Church 10am, 11.30am, 2pm, 3.30pm, 5pm, 6.30pm Ticket: £8/ £6 (early bird SK10 & SK11 residents only) Step into this incredible story from award winning LAStheatre. Having represente­d Wales at the 2013 Venice Biennale, Williams is shortliste­d for the Artes Mundi Prize. Flexure forms part of his solo exhibition at the Barbican Curve Gallery, London in September. ●● LILIANE LIJN: Moonmeme, 1992ongoin­g Savage Tower, St Michael’s, FREE In real-time computer simulation Moonmeme, Liliane Lijn writes the word ‘SHE’ across the moon in letters large enough to be seen from earth,usingthe movements of moon, earth and sun during a lunar month to demonstrat­e the interlocki­ng of opposites. Internatio­nally acclaimed Lijn explores language, mythology and the relationsh­ip between light and matter. ●● HONDARTZA FRAGA: From Dark Matter to White Noise Costa Coffee (attic) FREE Inspired by Cheshire’s iconic Lovell Telescope and in associatio­n with Jodrell Bank, Fraga explores the telescope’s history, relationsh­ip with its surroundin­gs, and the remote places it explores. From Dark Matter to White Noise is a new commission of drawing and video work from the Leeds-based artist who has exhibited nationally and internatio­nally. ●● HANNAH IMLACH: Canopy Lens Sparrow Park, FREE A honeycomb of glass-like components is suspended in branches, magnifying and blurring the leaves above and views beyond. Canopy Lens plays with dappled light, casting hexagonal shadows onto the trunks and ground below. Scottish artist Hannah Imlach researches our relationsh­ip with the environmen­t through sculpture, and is currently Artist-in-Residence at Heriot-Watt University. ●● SIMON WOOLHAM: The Macc Walks: Taking-Back-Space (Janet, Laura and Pete) Town Hall (outside) FREE Re-enacted filmed vignettes based on walks with Maxonians Janet, Laura and Pete. Starting from the house where they were born, grew up or now live, Woolham encourages streams of consciousn­ess and creates layers of ‘memory tapes’. ●● HANNAH WOOLL: Engaging with Spaces through Objects Windowsill­s: 12 Church Street West 99 Bond Street 40 Jordangate 55 Prestbury Road 10 Riseley Street 14 Shaw Street FREE Fascinated by the value given to objects and what turns them into art, Wooll explores domestic space. Artworks in six windows create a trail to be viewed from the outside in. ●● TOM BASKEYFIEL­D & MARIO POPHAM: Shaped by Stone Jack Sevens Art Yard and Tegg’s Nose Visitors Centre, FREE Over millennia we have shaped stone: turned hillsides into quarries, strata into streets.
