WE were very proud to be invited by Macclesfield Harriers to provide the PA for the Sport Relief event that was held at the Macclesfield athletic track on Sunday, March 19.

We even had some of our people taking part. Well done to Trish Napier and her family for completing the walk and Trevor Jenkins who did a great job as our station mascot, DJ Teddy. The event was a huge success, with nearly 170 people taking part. The event raised over £1,000 for Sport Relief. Organiser Bob Lynch said: “Once again many thanks for your team effort in putting on the event. A total of 164 people took part and just from the entries and without any donations, the event will have raised £1,000 for Sport Relief. Everybody seemed to enjoy it and I think the addition of Canalside Radio definitely added to the occasion, plus they provided balloons as well as running themselves.”

You will see us out and about with our PA system at many local events throughout the year. Next up is the Cheshire youth rugby festival at Macclesfield Rugby club on Sunday, April 17. Councillor Rachel Bailey, the recently appointed leader of Cheshire East Council is attending our studios on Wednesday, April 6, for an interview that will be recorded and played out at regular times on 102.8FM. If you have any questions you would like putting to Rachel please email them in advance to office@ thethread.org.uk.
