Power cuts hit 800 homes

HUN­DREDS of res­i­dents were left in the dark af­ter a se­ries of power cuts on Fri­day night.

More than 800 homes in Mac­cles­field were af­fected on Prest­bury Road, Parr Street, Bond Street and Lyon Street.

Read­ers took to the Ex­press’ Face­book page in con­fu­sion af­ter the cuts.

Frank Fisher said: “My TV and a friend’s has blown. I won­der if any­one else has had prop­erty dam­aged and what the po­si­tion is re­gard­ing com­pen­sa­tion?”

Anne Marie Glover said: “This is the fourth power cut, this is ridicu­lous, what the hell is go­ing on?”

A spokesman from Elec­tric­ity North West said: “An un­der­ground ca­ble fault caused the loss of power to 809 cus­tomers in Mac­cles­field on Fri­day night at 10.41pm.

“Our en­gi­neers quickly ar­rived on site and re­stored power to 333 cus­tomers at 10.57pm, a fur­ther 390 cus­tomers at 11pm and the re­main­ing 86 cus­tomers at 11.46pm.

“We apol­o­gise for any in­con­ve­nience caused.

“We haven’t re­ceived re­ports of dam­age to equip­ment but cus­tomers can con­tact us 24/7 on 0800 195 4141 and we can in­ves­ti­gate.”
