Spring is in air at flower club
SPRING was in the air at Prestbury Flower Club when they welcomed demonstrator Lorraine Simcox.
Lorraine treated the club to spring foliage from her garden or from the allotment with an arrangement depicting the hedgerows in spring.
Her demonstration title was ‘All Kinds of Everything’.
Lesley Stafford, programme secretary, said: “She interpreted this as the colours of her bowls and vases were forever being changed by spraying the containers to suit the flower arrangements.”
“She told us flowers mean different things across the world and of a mistake she made with her Italian sister-in-law by bringing a gift of white chrysanthemums for the house.
“Her sister-in-law strongly refused to let them in because they meant death!
“Lorraine did not say what she did with that arrangement but it did not go into the house.”
The demonstrator then judged the first club competition for novices for the Sanderson trophy with the title ‘Signs of Spring’.
Lesley added: “The president was delighted to see a good entry of lovely bright arrangements in the village hall.”
The next meeting of the flower club is on Wednesday, May 4, when the demonstrator will be Wendy Graveston with her title ‘The Apprentice’.
Visitors are also welcome to the demonstrations, which begin at 1.45pm at Prestbury Village Hall. Entrance for guests is £5.
