Opera group to set sail
AN opera group will perform popular Gilbert and Sullivan show Pirates of Penzance.
Bollington Light Opera Group (BLOG) is preparing for the performances from May 10 to 14 at Bollington Civic Hall.
Show director Denise Holian and musical director Sheila Kent have assembled a fine cast of principals. Michael Scott, a young but experienced veteran of Bollington shows, plays Frederick, an apprentice pirate who falls in love with Mabel, a major-general’s daughter played by Emily Bancroft.
Richard Comish plays a flamboyant but suspect Pirate King who tangles with the pompous Major General, played by Mike Raymond. Caught in between are the hapless Police Sergeant played by Craig Harris and his clueless bobbies.
Contributing to the general mayhem are Ruth, a pirate maid played by Helen Valentine, and senior pirate Samuel played by Paul Yandell.
The Major General’s daughters led by Edith and Kate (Steph Evans and Carol Pratt) torment the police who clash with the pirates.
Show director Denise said: “Having appeared in BLOG’s production of Pirates 10 years ago, I was delighted to be asked to direct the 2016 version. It’s a rollicking show with lots of laughs and great singing so we hope our audiences will have a wonderful experience.”
Tickets cost £12 with concessions at £10 Tuesday-Thursday from 01625 431038 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
