Po­lice step up pa­trols at for­est

PO­LICE are step­ping up pa­trols at Mac­cles­field For­est this week­end to com­bat ‘traf­fic chaos’ caused by bad park­ing.

Of­fi­cers will be in the area to en­force park­ing re­stric­tions as peo­ple head to the beauty spot.

PC Les­ley Long said de­spite reg­u­lar ac­tion from po­lice, park­ing was still a ma­jor prob­lem.

She said: “With weather set to be good we are ex­pect­ing high num­bers of peo­ple head­ing up to the for­est.

“Un­for­tu­nately re­cent ex­pe­ri­ence has shown that in­con­sid­er­ate park­ing has caused traf­fic chaos.

“There are se­ri­ous im­pli­ca­tions to the may­hem caused by not park­ing in the al­lot­ted bays, par­tic­u­larly in terms of block­ing ac­cess for emer­gency ve­hi­cles.

“Traf­fic en­force­ment will be in place and any ve­hi­cle caus­ing an ob­struc­tion will be towed away. Please park sen­si­bly and en­joy the for­est.”

Last Novem­ber, fol­low­ing com­plaints from res­i­dents, Cheshire East Coun­cil banned park­ing on roads around the for­est in­clud­ing: Stand­ing Stone Road, Trenta­bank Road, Field Road, and sec­tions of Clarke Lane, Red Lane, For­est Side and Oven Lane.
