How you can get stuck in at Barnaby
WITH just six weeks until this year’s Barnaby Festival, there is still time to get to get involved with some of the exciting events on the agenda.
Festival chair Lynne Jones said there is plenty of opportunities for people to join in, whether it’s designing a space craft or joining the fantastic carnival parade.
She said: “There are many ways to join in and take part in Barnaby Festival 2016 which runs from Friday 17 to Sunday 26 June in Macclesfield town centre.
“Spacepod Challenge invites teams of budding engineers to design a capsule which can land on the surface of a far away planet - in this case represented by an egg being dropped from a height of six meters onto the cobbles of Market Place!
“The Shop Window Competition is also on a ‘Space’ theme and those with a window in the town centre are encouraged to be part of the festival!”
To celebrate the town’s long association with astronomy and aerospace engineering, science bof- fins are encouraged to put their heads together to come up with a craft fit for space.
The teams will be judged by a team of experts in front of a live audience on June 25.
Businesses with a shop window in the town centre are encouraged to decorate their space for the ‘The Shop Window Competition’.
There are prizes for creative interpretation of the theme, participation and involving the public. There’s also a new ‘People’s Prize’ to be awarded at the end of the Festival. Register your window by 9 June 2016.
You can play, dance, protest, drink tea, knit, learn double Dutch at The Maccles-field - a pop-up green space for Barnaby
showcasing the town’s creative talents and community spirit.
This 5m x 4m ‘village green’ in the Market Place will host free activities which invite the public to take part. Submit your idea and request a slot as soon as possible.
And the Carnival Parade will blast off with 800 costumed Maxonians taking to the streets on Saturday, June 18, at 1pm in all manner of crazy creations on a ‘space’ theme.
