‘Fabulous’ party night brings fun and fundraising to community centre
DOZENS of party-goers flocked to a fundraising night in honour of the mayor.
The Poynton Town Mayoral Party Night was held at Poynton Community Centre, and was in aid of the charity.
More than 60 people, including the mayor of Cheshire East councillor Hilda Gaddum, turned out for a night of music and fun featuring local band Desert Wind.
Mayor Rebecca Horsman-Johnson hosted the night, which was complete with a buffet, raffle and charity auction.
The cash raised, which is still being counted, will go towards the ongoing refurbishment of the centre.
Parish councillor Geoff King, who is involved in the community centre project, said: “To say that the Poynton Town Mayor’s Party Night was a success is a bit of an understatement.
“The music was supplied by Desert Wind, one of Poynton’s favourite bands and featuring our very own Andrew Liddie.
“Testament to their popularity has to be that fans travelled all the way from Oxford to see them perform.
“These groupies even came equipped with masquerade masks to be sure they entered the spirit of the evening.
“As always the band demonstrated why they are so popular, with lovely vocal harmonies and great guitar solos which – if proof were needed – demonstrated their complete musical ability.
“It was a fabulous night for a great cause.”
