WE invited the newly-appointed leader of Cheshire East Council, Councillor Rachel Bailey, in to our studios recently so that she could get a feel for what our community network offers to the residents of Cheshire East and to explore how we and the council can further develop, going forward, the relationship that we have had over the last 10 years.

Rachel was very impressed with what she saw, and what she heard in a conversation with Nick Wright our station manager, Mark Blackman our deputy station manager and Brian Moores our chairman. Rachel was then interviewed by Brian in one of our recording studios and talked openly and honestly about her role, the challenges the role brings, her priorities as she moves forward in the role, how the local towns of Wilmslow, Bollington, Poynton and Macclesfield may see the impact of the council’s plans for devolution, moving more to being a commissioning authority, etc. and how this may impact on our more rural communities like Prestbury, Adlington, and Rainow.

Rachel also gave an update on the Macclesfield town centre development. The interview will be played out many times over the next few weeks on 102.8FM and will also be available as a podcast. We are also currently talking with local junior and high schools about how their students may benefit from getting involved with local radio. We will keep you informed as things develop. If your children or grandchildren attend local schools and would like to get involved, please contact the school they attend in the first instance.
