Poynton batting woes once again exposed

Macclesfield Express - - SEARCH - MARTIN SAXON

AFTER losing their first match and seeing the second washed out, Poynton’s disappointing start continued at Runcorn.

Several players have departed over the winter, and the batting department may prove to be Poynton’s Achilles heel.

Here only Adam Williams (66) and Jon Hadley (26 not out) made scores of note, as much of the damage was done by Nathan McNicol with 5-49. Runcorn look to have found themselves another very good overseas player.

Earlier, not everything went to plan for Poynton with the ball either, and injured captain Jimmy Williams was much missed here.

From a parlous position, Runcorn’ s last four wickets added 123, via 45 from Richard Watt, 41 from David McNamara and 27 from Sam Rowland.

Poynton new ball bowler Tom Hamnett continued his excellent start to the season with a 4-44 return, and Hadley (3-20) also returned excellent figures.
