Burton’s triumph on debut
CARL Burton got his professional MMA career off to a bang after winning his debut in impressive fashion during the weekend.
Burton represents 12 Gauge MMA and was competing at the UK Fighting Championships event at Preston Guild Hall.
He took on Walid Mustapha, and it didn’t take the Macclesfield fighter long to make his impact, defeating Mustapha by ground and pound in round one.
It meant that Burton picked up the TKO victory, and he was overwhelmed with the backing he received from his army of fans.
“I feel humble from all of the support. Thanks guys for cheering me on. Much love,” he tweeted.
Burton recently decided to make the switch to the professional ranks after a successful amateur career where he regularly represented the UK in the IMMAF World Amateur Championships in Las Vegas.
He performed well on the UK team, picking up a medal during one year of the championships, with his loss coming against the man who went on to win the competition.
There were a number of other bouts on the UK Fighting Championships event in Preston, with Aaron Aby, Shaun Lomas, Ste Nightingale and Leeroy Barnes all picking up wins too.
