Ex-addicts in charity nine-miler
FORMER addicts will take part in a sponsored walk.
The nine-mile Smile with Every Mile event on Saturday, May 21, is being organised by the Reach Out And Recover group, ROAR, a community based recovery housing project set up two years ago to help recovering addicts in Macclesfield.
The Churchside based group offers meetings, support and work experience to people recovering from addictions to drugs, alcohol, prescribed medication and legal highs.
ROAR’s community liaison manager Vic Small said the walk’s aim was to raise funds and bring the community together.
She said: “We just can’t wait. The biggest thing is the community coming together. Their support has been outstanding. It’ll be a massive achievement if we do it.”
Around 35 people will walk from Macclesfield Cenotaph to Macclesfield Forest and back, including participants from charities Street Wise (CVS), addict support and recovery group Changing Lanes (CWP) and Macclesfield Lifestyle Group, for adults with disabilities.
The walk starts at 11am. Money raised will go to ROAR.
