Stu­dent bags aca­demic award

A COL­LEGE stu­dent from Prest­bury has scooped a pres­ti­gious award for her aca­demic achieve­ments.

Natasha Thoma­son, 19, from Wil­low Way, who at­tends Abbey Col­lege in Manch­ester, re­ceived the At­tain­ment Award af­ter high aca­demic achieve­ment across all the fac­ul­ties in the col­lege.

The A-level ge­og­ra­phy, maths and eco­nom­ics stu­dent was pre­sented with her cer­tifi­cate in front of 180 of her peers, staff and par­ents at a cer­e­mony held at Manch­ester Town Hall ear­lier this month.

The event was a cel­e­bra­tion of the ac­com­plish­ments of stu­dents due to grad­u­ate this sum­mer and fo­cused on var­i­ous high­lights through­out the year.

Awards were then given to those in­di­vid­u­als who had made out­stand­ing aca­demic achieve­ments.

Guest of hon­our Gra­ham Able, deputy chair­man of the Al­pha Plus Group, an ed­u­ca­tion com­pany which runs a net­work of in­de­pen­dent schools and col­leges, pre­sented the awards.

The Abbey Col­lege Manch­ester band then en­ter­tained the crowd with a va­ri­ety of vo­cals and in­stru­men­tal per­for­mances.

Natasha, who has re­ceived of­fers to study ge­og­ra­phy at Univer­sity Col­lege Lon­don, the Univer­sity of Not­ting­ham and the Univer­sity of Manch­ester, said: “I have been on such a fan­tas­tic jour­ney at Abbey Col­lege Manch­ester.

“I have met some in­cred­i­ble peo­ple and I am sad to be leav­ing.

“I will never for­get all the help and support I re­ceived to help me achieve the great grades I needed.”

Prin­ci­pal Liz Elam said: “Natasha is a stu­dent we are sure has a bright fu­ture ahead of her.

“The At­tain­ment Award is truly suited to her as she has main­tained ex­cel­lent aca­demic skills through­out her time at the col­lege.”
