IN the West of England Championships at the Royal Devon GC were Prestbury’s James Newton who finished third along with Josh McMahon fifth, and Tom Dolan 19th.

Finally it was the younger end who showed that there are good foundations in place as the Mixed Age (u14 and U16) team took on Shropshire and Herefordshire at a cold and wet Eaton GC and posted an impressive 13-5 win. Junior organiser Mike Jones said: “After a slow start in the morning foursomes they recovered well to post a 5-1 lead with four wins and two halves.

“They continued their dominance in the singles winning eight of the 12 games and in the four losses the matches went to the 18th green. There were some excellent performances from the county’s most promising u14 and u16’s in testing weather conditions.”

The Cheshire team was: Luke Donnelly (Ashton-on-Mersey), James Ashfield (Eaton), Sam Long (Delamere Forest), Tom Doran (Delamere Forest), Jake Hibbert (Warrington), Hywel Shaw (Wilmslow), Jack McLeod (Styal), James Dewhurst (Upton), Remy Miller (Tytherington), Oscar Doran (Delamere Forest). Liam Mann (Hazel Grove), Jack Muir (Styal).
