Warriors crown in Burton’s sights
CARL Burton is targeting the Cage Warriors bantam weight title after he made a winning start to his professional career last week.
The Macclesfield fighter defeated Walid Mustapha in the first round of their fight at UKFC in Preston to successfully win his debut.
Burton is now setting his sights high after his victory, and hopes to one day be wearing gold in one the UK’s best promotions.
“A lot of people have a dream of fighting in the UFC but being a Cage Warriors champion is my goal,” he said.
“Anybody can make the UFC now as there’s so many shows, so I think being a champion in Cage Warriors would be bigger than fighting in the UFC.
“I got an offer to fight in Cage Warriors a few years ago but I turned it down as I felt I was lacking experience.
“After I’ve had a couple more fights then I try and hassle them to sign me, and if not them then I’d also like to try and fight for Titan in the United States.
“They’ve just signed Jose Torres who I have fought before in the amateurs so it would be great to face him again.”
THE Walters Pairs competition was won by Sheila Wilson and Brenda Bailey, who beat Miriam Norman and Sandra Reid in the semi finals before triumphing in the final against Jill Sweatman and Lynette Mullins, earlier conquerors of Sue Munslow and Jan Yates.
