Opera’s pirate crew pulls in the crowds
AN opera group enjoyed a full house for performances of popular Gilbert and Sullivan show Pirates of Penzance.
Bollington Light Opera Group (BLOG) performed a series of sellout shows at Bollington Civic Hall.
Mike Raymond, chairman, said the show was well received by the capacity crowds.
He said: “Pirates of Penzance is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular comic operas with a plethora of opportunities to exploit the comic aspects of the story.“
Show director Denise Holian and musical director Sheila Kent assembled the cast.
Denise Holian, director, said: “Having appeared in the pirates cast 10 years ago, it was a privilege to be asked to direct this latest performance for BLOG. The reaction of the packed audiences each night said it all.
“We had a marvellous, talented cast who gave virtually faultless performances with the quality of singing easily matching if not topping that of previous productions.
“This show was a great success and proved how professional a group of amateur players can be.”
The next production will be Showtime with a hot pot supper from November 15 to 19.
