Poynton’s mixed fortunes
AFTER their first win the week before, it was disappointing that Poynton fell to defeat against local rivals Stockport Georgians.
Dan Haresnape made 52 – his maiden first team 50 – and James Longhorn also continued his good form with 35 as the pair added 92 for the first wicket. However, Adam Williams with 27 was the only one to reach double figures thereafter, and with James Locke recording 5-55, Poynton subsided to 136-7 in 38 overs in this rain reduced match.
In the second innings, Andy Heath took three wickets for the second week in succession, but Hayden Bailey’s 46 led the way as Georgians completed a five wicket win in only 27 overs.
After an uncertain start to the season, victory the week before came as an immense relief to Poynton. Irby were dismissed for just 74 before Poynton completed their run chase with few alarms and only two wickets down.
Tom Hamnett had looked good with the new ball in the first two matches, but here he really surpassed himself, recording 6-25 in 15 overs. Andy Heath also played a major role with 3-17 in 10 overs as Irby went from 18 for no loss to 46-7 and then 74 all out.
Dan Haresnape made 34 and James Longhorn on his return to the club finished 23 not out in the successful run chase.
