Sailors celebrate club of the year award
A SAILING club welcomed Macclesfield MP David Rutley to show off its upgraded facilities and latest award.
Redesmere Sailing Club has been named Club of the Year 2016 by the Royal Yachting Association.
The MP, along with his family, were guests of honour at the annual open day. They took advantage of perfect conditions for an escorted sail on the lake in two separate sailing dinghies before taking a tour of the clubhouse and outside areas. The club has recently undertaken major refurbishments and improvements including a newly located race management cabin.
Redesmere Sailing Club’s Commodore, Stuart Campbell, said the day was a success. He said: “David and his family had a great time on the water getting the ‘RYA Club of the Year experience’ with us, along with a steady flow of visitors who really enjoyed our friendly and welcoming culture and consistently complimented the quality of sailing and the friendly support provided by our youth and adult sailors.”
Mr Rutley added: “I am most grateful to Redesmere Sailing Club for such a memorable visit. It’s great to see the club thriving with around 300 members and helping more people enjoy sailing.”
