Sailors cel­e­brate club of the year award

A SAIL­ING club wel­comed Mac­cles­field MP David Rut­ley to show off its up­graded fa­cil­i­ties and lat­est award.

Redesmere Sail­ing Club has been named Club of the Year 2016 by the Royal Yacht­ing As­so­ci­a­tion.

The MP, along with his fam­ily, were guests of hon­our at the an­nual open day. They took ad­van­tage of per­fect con­di­tions for an es­corted sail on the lake in two sep­a­rate sail­ing dinghies be­fore tak­ing a tour of the club­house and out­side ar­eas. The club has re­cently un­der­taken ma­jor re­fur­bish­ments and im­prove­ments in­clud­ing a newly lo­cated race man­age­ment cabin.

Redesmere Sail­ing Club’s Com­modore, Stu­art Camp­bell, said the day was a suc­cess. He said: “David and his fam­ily had a great time on the water get­ting the ‘RYA Club of the Year ex­pe­ri­ence’ with us, along with a steady flow of vis­i­tors who re­ally en­joyed our friendly and wel­com­ing cul­ture and con­sis­tently com­pli­mented the qual­ity of sail­ing and the friendly sup­port pro­vided by our youth and adult sailors.”

Mr Rut­ley added: “I am most grate­ful to Redesmere Sail­ing Club for such a mem­o­rable visit. It’s great to see the club thriv­ing with around 300 members and help­ing more peo­ple en­joy sail­ing.”
