Royal recognition for Edna
A GARDEN party at Buckingham Palace in the company of The Queen and Prince Philip was a special treat for Edna Keefe, from Macclesfield.
Edna, who has worked at East Cheshire Hospice for 28 years, was accompanied by elder daughter Janet Johnson, from Bollington, who is a manager at estate agents Holmes Naden.
Edna, aged 80, was invited after she received the High Sheriff Award earlier this year in recognition of her dedication to the charity.
Edna said: “It was a brilliant day out with guests in attendance from all over the world.
“We saw The Queen and Prince Philip, walked through the corridors of Buckingham Palace and strolled round the gardens where we enjoyed refreshments.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to all those involved at the hospice for making it such a memorable day.
“It’s such a special place and I’ll always be grateful for what they’ve done for me.”
Edna was involved at the hospice from the outset, helping clean the building two weeks before it opened in 1988 and worked at Macclesfield Hospital before that.
Edna, who has seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, has worked at the hospice as a domestic, where she became supervisor and still works part-time.
