French ‘twin’ to visit town
THE Twinning Association of Poynton is to host a delegation of visitors its French twinning partner Haybes.
The group is designing a programme of events for the visit in July.
One of the events included a French Evening on what in France is Bastille Day.
This will take place at Il Borgo Antico on July 14.
Tickets are £15 per person and are available from reception at the Civic Hall.
The Twinning Association of Poynton (TAP), which is already connected to Erd in Hungary, is in the final discussions to team up with Haybes which is in the Ardennes region in the north of the country.
The twinning, which aims to build friendships between individuals, groups and the council, is the result of relationships forged 102 years ago when people in Poynton donated money to help rebuild Haybes after it was destroyed by fire and bombs in the First World War.
Representative from Poynton have already visited Haybes, seeing the town’s schools and college, leisure centre, camping site on the banks of the Meuse, charcuterie factory and aluminium factory.
Bastille Day is a French national holiday to celebrate and remember the beginning of the French Revolution.
TAP want to hear from anyone interested in joining the association to contact its secretary Glenys Parry-Jones via email at glenys. email@example.com
