French ‘twin’ to visit town

THE Twin­ning As­so­ci­a­tion of Poyn­ton is to host a del­e­ga­tion of vis­i­tors its French twin­ning part­ner Haybes.

The group is de­sign­ing a pro­gramme of events for the visit in July.

One of the events in­cluded a French Evening on what in France is Bastille Day.

This will take place at Il Borgo Antico on July 14.

Tick­ets are £15 per per­son and are avail­able from re­cep­tion at the Civic Hall.

The Twin­ning As­so­ci­a­tion of Poyn­ton (TAP), which is al­ready con­nected to Erd in Hun­gary, is in the fi­nal dis­cus­sions to team up with Haybes which is in the Ar­dennes re­gion in the north of the coun­try.

The twin­ning, which aims to build friend­ships be­tween in­di­vid­u­als, groups and the coun­cil, is the re­sult of re­la­tion­ships forged 102 years ago when peo­ple in Poyn­ton do­nated money to help re­build Haybes af­ter it was de­stroyed by fire and bombs in the First World War.

Rep­re­sen­ta­tive from Poyn­ton have al­ready vis­ited Haybes, see­ing the town’s schools and col­lege, leisure cen­tre, camp­ing site on the banks of the Meuse, char­cu­terie fac­tory and alu­minium fac­tory.

Bastille Day is a French na­tional hol­i­day to cel­e­brate and re­mem­ber the be­gin­ning of the French Revo­lu­tion.
