Dinner nets thousands for club
PRESTBURY Youth Club has raised thousands of pounds for their new home with a dinner and auction at restaurant Bacchus.
The evening, which raised more than £4,500, was hosted by Charlie Lawson, best known for playing Jim McDonald in TV’s Coronation Street.
More than 65 people attended the event, organised to raise funds for equipment for their new home at Bollin Grove, which they will share with the AFC Prestbury U15 football team, who will use the pitch there. The youth club lost their old home, Ford House, in 2008, when the 19th century building was declared unfit on health and safety grounds.
April Green, club chair, said: “It was an incredible night at Bacchus, we were so pleased with how much was raised. The community have really pulled together to help us.”
Diners enjoyed a sumptuous three-course dinner and were entertained by singersongwriter Charli White. Auction prizes donated included VIP tickets for England V Turkey at the Etihad stadium, Coldplay and AEGON tennis tournament tickets, sessions at Yogalife in Wilmslow, four- ball golf at Prestbury Golf Club and vouchers for restaurants San Carlo Fumo and Bacchus. The mother-of three said: “Our goal is still to hit our £121,000 target as soon as possible and we’ve now raised £86,000.”
