Din­ner nets thou­sands for club

PRESTBURY Youth Club has raised thou­sands of pounds for their new home with a din­ner and auc­tion at restau­rant Bac­chus.

The evening, which raised more than £4,500, was hosted by Char­lie Law­son, best known for play­ing Jim McDon­ald in TV’s Coro­na­tion Street.

More than 65 peo­ple at­tended the event, or­gan­ised to raise funds for equip­ment for their new home at Bollin Grove, which they will share with the AFC Prestbury U15 foot­ball team, who will use the pitch there. The youth club lost their old home, Ford House, in 2008, when the 19th cen­tury build­ing was de­clared un­fit on health and safety grounds.

April Green, club chair, said: “It was an in­cred­i­ble night at Bac­chus, we were so pleased with how much was raised. The com­mu­nity have re­ally pulled to­gether to help us.”

Din­ers en­joyed a sump­tu­ous three-course din­ner and were en­ter­tained by singer­song­writer Charli White. Auc­tion prizes do­nated in­cluded VIP tick­ets for Eng­land V Turkey at the Eti­had sta­dium, Cold­play and AE­GON ten­nis tour­na­ment tick­ets, ses­sions at Yo­gal­ife in Wilm­slow, four- ball golf at Prestbury Golf Club and vouch­ers for restau­rants San Carlo Fumo and Bac­chus. The mother-of three said: “Our goal is still to hit our £121,000 tar­get as soon as pos­si­ble and we’ve now raised £86,000.”

Next on the fundrais­ing agenda is a bag pack at Mor­risons in Poyn­ton on June 4, from 10am un­til 6pm, A Grand Jumble sale will be held at Prestbury Vil­lage Hall on July 2.
