Another setback for Poynton
POYNTON slipped to another disappointing defeat at home to Hale Barns.
There were decent contributions from four of their top six, with Adam Williams and Jon Hadley both making 21, Mark Coram 17 and Simon Dunn 16. However, there was again no significant innings from anyone. Both openers fell cheaply and then numbers seven to nine failed to score a run between them as the innings subsided from 71-4 to 83-9.
Andy Heath scored 20 at number 10 to take Poynton into three figures, but their final score of 102 never looked likely to be enough.
Hale Barns’ talented Australian all rounder Shehan Fernando had an excellent match, taking 4-28 and then making the top score of 29 not out as his side completed a four wicket win. Dave Saddington also took 5-26 in the Poynton innings.
Poynton also suffered a first round exit in the Cheshire League’s T20 knockout competition, as Heaton Mersey racked up an imposing 159-4, and Poynton could only reply with 67-9, despite a run a ball 28 from Mark Orpen.
