Gaffer swung it for Fitz
DAVID Fitzpatrick insists working with manager John Askey was one of the key reasons that convinced him to stay at Macclesfield Town.
The defender recently signed a new deal with the Silkmen to keep him at the club until the end of next season.
The 26-year-old was a prominent figure in the Macc team during the last campaign, and he admits he owes a lot to Askey.
“The gaffer had a huge influence on me signing on for next season. He kept faith in me all last season and I think from the work that was done last year my defending has improved a lot,” he said.
“He also made it clear very quickly he wanted to keep me and it’s always nice to feel wanted. There was a number of other things really that convinced me to stay but knowing that near enough everyone from last season’s squad was going to be offered a new deal, I was looking forward to that stability.
“Hopefully as a group we can all take forward the positives from last year into the next campaign.”
Fitzpatrick is glad to have his contract tied up already.
“It’s a great feeling. The last two summers have been really frustrating for me, through contract uncertainty and also injury,” he said.
“To get things sorted so soon was a massive relief for me and it’s given me something to look forward to.”
