Pitch up to enjoy carnival atmosphere

-

COME along and enjoy the carnival atmosphere at Party On The Pitch this weekend.

That is the message from East Cheshire Hospice, which is holding a big summer celebration at Macclesfield Rugby Club, Priory Lane, from Friday to Sunday (June 10-12).

The hospice is hoping for the support of the community as it aims to raise more than £30,000 from the three-day extravaganza.

Three giant teepees are being erected on specially prepared land within the rugby club complex.

The teepees will be heated and provide cover in the event of bad weather.

The party starts with a quiz night from 7pm on Friday, June 10, hosted by the team which stages the hospice’s regular quiz events.

Teams are limited to eight, with entry £10 a person.

To enter go to events@ echospice.org.uk.

A traditional summer fair kicks off Saturday’s entertainment, from 11am, with bouncy castles and balloons among the attractions which include a wide range of stalls selling crafts, fashions and food.

Entry is £3 per adult paid on entry with children free.

Saturday night is party night, starting at 7pm, with England’s opening match against Russia at Euro 2016 (kick off 8pm) shown on two giant screens inside the teepees.

The rugby club bar is open and the night is compered by Darren Antrobus from Silk FM.

The £10 admission for adults is payable on entry.

After the football, an open mic night will showcase local musical and comedy talent.

The weekend is completed with a Tea Dance from 4pm-7pm to celebrate the Queens’s 90th birthday.

Relax around the firepit with tea and cake, while enjoying an afternoon of musical entertainment.

Entry is £5 payable on arrival.

Organiser Jessica Ruth, events manager at the hospice, said: “It’s going to be one of our biggest and best weekends of the year and held right in the heart of the community.

“This is a revival of our summer fair which was always extremely popular.

“There’s something for everyone and our fair is a perfect day out for families.

“I’m sure there will be a great atmosphere both inside and outside the teepees and we’d like to thank everyone for their kind support, including Tipi Unique and Macclesfield Rugby Club.

“All monies raised goes directly towards caring for patients.

“It costs around £345 to provide one night of care for each patient and fundraising events such as the Party On The Pitch are vital to keeping our hospice going.”
