Teacher’s fundraising mission in memory of former colleague
A TEACHER from Tytherington High School took on a mammoth bike ride in memory of a former colleague.
Dave Bowyer, who teaches at the school, travelled from Morecambe in Lancashire to Bridlington in Yorkshire for the Coast to Coast Challenge.
The challenge was prompted by Dave’s former colleague Jo Adamson, who sadly died from cancer, with the money raised from the challenge going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Dave said: “A wet and windy Saturday morning saw the beginning of a 175-mile cycle ride from Morecambe to Bridlington on the east coast of England.
“The route took in Settle, Ripon, Stamford Bridge and York among others.
“Sadly, last December Tytherington lost one of its former teachers, Jo Adamson to cancer.
“Jo was a much-liked and respected member of staff, who loved teaching and had a real passion for her subject of Drama.
“The coast to coast ride was conceived as a way to raise money in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, an organisation which does fantastic work for people living with cancer.
“After dipping a toe in the Irish and North seas, along with a few steep hills, over £800 was raised in memory of an amazing teacher, colleague and friend.”
Dave added: “It was great to have the opportunity to raise money for a fantastic charity in Macmillan Cancer Care, as well as honouring Jo’s memory as a gifted teacher and colleague.
“The generous support from Tytherington staff, friends and family was a fitting tribute to her . ”
