Good enough to eat
●● Chives (Allium schoenoprasum)
Their pretty pink pint-size lollipop flower heads are now blooming in my garden, which shows that herbs can be both decorative and delicious - and chives are among the easiest to grow.
Their mildly onion-flavoured spiky stems are hollow and great snipped into salads or dips for extra texture and flavour.
Plant pot-grown plants in a sunny spot in late spring or summer, spacing clumps around 15cm apart. Water well in dry weather and weed around them. The clumps should expand rapidly so you can lift and divide them every couple of years.
