HIS recipes wowed Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, and now Luis Toryano is giving everyone the chance to sample his cooking by opening his own bakery.

Luis, who lives in Poynton, was a finalist in the BBC’s 2014 series of The Great British Bake Off, impressing judges with his artistic flair and baking prowess.

Now Luis, who gave up his job as a graphic designer following his appearance on the show two years ago, has opened The Hive Bakery on Park Lane, Poynton.

As well as serving some of the cakes for which he became famous, Luis and his team will also be baking a whole range of sweet treats, plus takeaway teas, coffees and hot chocolate.

Luis said: “It’s fantastic, we are doing really, really well, we’ve been very lucky, the community has really turned out to support us. We’ve had to close early two days because we’ve run out of stock. We were affected by the flooding - we’d just finished for the day and it all started coming in so we had to start cleaning that up. It didn’t cause any damage.”

It’s taken less than a year for Luis to turn his dream into a reality after deciding last summer to open his own bakery, with Vicky Parker, Lucy Colledge and Sally Williams completing his baking team.

He said: “Everyone keeps asking whether I’ll be working in the shop and the answer is yes! I will be here full time, we are a team here and we all do a bit of everything.

“People are quite surprised to see me here but it’s my pet project, it’s my business and I want it to be the best it possibly can be.”

The Hive Bakery is open from 7am until 5pm Monday until Saturday.

Customers can also place their orders for cakes online with a 24 hour turn around.
